Sami Zayn is once again Undisputed WWE Champion after a series of interference during his match against CM Punk on “WWE SmackDown” went in his favor.
Punk got Zayn into the corner to start off the match, but Zayn slid out of the ring, where he was met with a Punk dive. Punk tweaked his knee during the beginnings of the bout, which he sold throughout the match and was checked on by the referee. After Punk wove him off, Zayn got out of the ring to hit a chop block, then drove the inside of Punk’s knee into the ring post.
The champion targeted Zayn’s injured wrist. He got Zayn up for the GTS, but Zayn countered into a figure four. Punk got to the ropes to force the break. Zayn looked for the Blue Thunder Bomb, but initially couldn’t get Punk up with his injured wrist. Punk went for the GTS, but Zayn dodged and hit the move. Zayn hit the exploder in the corner and looked for the Helluva Kick, but Punk hit him with a clothesline instead, then the GTS. His knee gave out, however, and he couldn’t cover Zayn fast enough.
Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae ran down to distract Punk, and Zayn almost had him rolled up. He locked in the figure four again, but Punk grabbed Zayn’s wrist and then locked in the Anaconda Vice. As Zayn was tapping, LaRae still had the referee distracted. Gargano looked to hit Punk with the title, but Punk caught him with the GTS. Zayn looked to grab the belt, but Kevin Owens appeared and got there first.
Owens accidentally hit Punk with the title and went to hit Zayn, but Zayn nailed him with a low blow. Zayn hit Punk with the Helluva Kick in the end to regain the Undisputed WWE Championship.
