“There’s some massive news about to drop. Yeah, I’m coming back,” Brook said to talkSPORT Boxing. “Back in the professional ring. Boxing Board of Control. Me in there again.”
Brook says the fight is nearly finalized and will happen before the end of 2026. When Eubank’s name was put to him, he initially responded, “Who knows, brother? Who knows?” before conceding, “It could be.” He said an announcement will come soon.
A Brook-Eubank fight would be built heavily around nostalgia. The former champion hasn’t competed since stopping Amir Khan in six rounds in February 2022, another all-British fight that arrived many years after fans originally wanted it.
Brook has also been largely a part-time fighter since challenging Gennadiy Golovkin at middleweight in September 2016. He moved up two divisions after negotiations for Golovkin to fight Eubank fell apart, subsequently suffering a fractured right orbital bone in a fifth-round stoppage loss.
Nine months later, a fractured left orbital bone accompanied his 11th-round knockout loss to Errol Spence Jr. Only five appearances followed over the next five years, including a four-round loss to Terence Crawford in 2020 before his victory over Khan.
That inactivity creates a commercial question. Brook was a major British name during his peak, but a younger generation of fans has seen very little of him as an active fighter.
It will be interesting to see if Turki Alalshikh has any interest in financing Brook-Eubank. Putting money behind Eubank’s fights with Conor Benn made sense because Benn is younger and remains a major attraction in Britain. A 40-year-old coming out of another lengthy retirement presents a different proposition entirely.
Eubank and Brook have flirted with the matchup before, including after Eubank’s 2023 rematch victory over Liam Smith. If this is the “massive fight” being teased, Brook and Eubank will be selling nostalgia for a matchup that would have meant considerably more years ago.
