Moses Itauma respects Filip Hrgovic’s accomplishments, but he doesn’t believe the Croatian’s recent victories over David Adeleye, Dave Allen and Joe Joyce will prepare him for what he’ll face when they meet on August 29 at the O2 Arena in London.

The unbeaten heavyweight made it clear that while Hrgovic’s record deserves recognition, he sees himself as a completely different challenge.

“I respect you. You’ve done a lot in boxing. You’ve done a lot more than I have,” said Moses Itauma to Queensberry Promotions. “Those accolades won’t fight for you. I ain’t David Adeleye. I ain’t Dave Allen. I ain’t Joe Joyce.

“I must say, even surviving that barrage of punches from David Adeleye, and he’s a big hitter. Like I said, our thing is exploiting one of Hrgovic’s tendencies or a few of them.”

Hrgovic (19-1, 15 KOs) revived his career this year with victories over Joyce, Allen and Adeleye after suffering the lone defeat of his career against Daniel Dubois in June 2024. Those wins restored the 33-year-old Croatian to contender status and earned him a high-profile showdown with Itauma.

Trainer Ben Davison said neither he nor Itauma hesitated when Hrgovic’s name came up during discussions about the next opponent.

“These are all fights that are going to happen along the way, and we’re comfortable. Queensberry’s comfortable. Moses is comfortable that this is the right fight at the right time,” said trainer Davison to IFL TV. “We all work together, and it’s a fight that Mo has wanted for a long time. Obviously, we all go in, discuss, a few names get chucked about, offers go out.

“Not everybody, it’s not a fight everybody’s jumping at to take, obviously for obvious reasons. And this is the one that stuck, and it’s a fight he’s wanted for quite a while.”

Rather than dwelling on Hrgovic’s recent form, Itauma says his team has identified technical habits they plan to exploit on fight night.
