It will be the first fight for both men since competing at UFC 322 this past November. While it was a great night for Prates, who brutally knocked out former champ Leon Edwards, it was a rough one for Della Maddalena.

In his first defense of the 170-pound title, Della Maddalena was dominated by Islam Makhachev in the main event at Madison Square Garden, winning the title and handing Della Maddalena his first octagon loss. “JDM” captured the title with a Fight of the Year contending decision win over Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 in May 205.

Prates is 6-1 in the UFC and enters his second promotional headliner. After losing a competitive fight to Ian Machado Garry in the UFC Kansas City headliner a little over a year ago, “The Nightmare” bounced back with consecutive knockouts of Edwards and Geoff Neal.
