The EuroLeague regular season has officially come to an end. Žalgiris defeated Paris in the final round and will now face Fenerbahçe in the playoffs, with the Istanbul side holding home-court advantage in a best-of-five series.
Following his team’s crucial win, Masiulis addressed the media and shared his thoughts on the upcoming matchup against his former club, having been part of Fenerbahçe’s coaching staff alongside Sarunas Jasikevičius during last season’s EuroLeague title run.
“We’re not thinking about the playoff matchup right now, we’re enjoying the win and qualifying for the playoffs. Of course, we knew that if we made the playoffs, we would face very strong opponents anyway. If someone had told me at the beginning of the season that we would make the playoffs and face Fenerbahçe, I would have said, ‘there’s something wrong with you!’ It’s an exciting matchup, the emotions will be incredible. I know how hard it is to keep Saras out of the Final Four. It’s going to be a very tough series. We will compete and try to give everything we have on the court.”
Masiulis also thanked Fenerbahçe and Sarunas Jasikevičius for allowing him to leave the club last summer:
“Saras sent me a ‘congratulations’ message after the game. We talked about how unexpected this matchup is. Still, we are professionals and we will do what is best for our team. I would like to thank Fenerbahçe and Saras for allowing me to leave. Saras made it possible for me to take over Žalgiris.”
