Meet the Mets
The Mets improved to 3-1 on the season with a 4-2 win over the Cardinals in St. Louis. Clay Holmes, the Mets’ 2025 wins leader, picked up his first victory of the season, while Devin Williams earned his first save in orange and blue. Carson Benge had his first two-hit game in the majors, and Bo Bichette, who heard plenty of boos in the team’s first homestand, drove in two, including the go-ahead run.

This year’s rookie class is slugging their way to history.

So far this year, there has been a 54% overturn rate using the ABS challenge system out of 175 attempts. Of those challenges, catchers have a 64% overturn rate, while batters have a 42% overturn rate, and pitchers a 40% overturn rate.
Jeff Passan examined the best and worst ABS challenges so far in 2026, while Johnny Flores Jr. of The Athletic explored which umpires, teams, and players and thrived, and which have struggled, under the new system.

Cody Ponce made his first major league appearance since 2021 but had to be carted off the field in the Blue Jays’ 14-5 loss to the Rockies, their first defeat of 2026.
Tony Vitello, who I am learning is the Giants’ manager and not an extra on the Sopranos, was the toast of the clubhouse after his first win as San Francisco’s skipper, a 3-2 victory over the Padres.
Michael Soroka struck out 10 and threw and immaculate inning to help league the Diamondbacks to a 9-6 victory over the Tigers. Justin Verlander got the start for Detroit and had to grind through his first outing back with his old club.
