Itauma is one of the more dangerous young heavyweights coming through the ranks. He carries serious punching power, though his stamina and ability to handle incoming power remain largely untested. Against Franklin, he will face a durable opponent who has never been stopped.
Franklin enters the fight riding a three-fight winning streak. His record stands at 24-2 with 15 knockouts. The only defeats on his record came in 12-round decisions against Dillian Whyte and former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Even in those losses, Franklin showed he could box at a high level and absorb heavy shots.
Itauma brings an undefeated record of 13-0 with 11 knockouts. His fights have ended quickly. Across his career he has boxed just 26 rounds, averaging only two rounds per bout. In his most recent fight he faced Dillian Whyte, the same veteran who previously defeated Franklin. Many expected Whyte’s experience to extend the contest, but Itauma stepped in and finished the job in the opening round, stopping Whyte in under two minutes.
The matchup now comes down to a simple question: can Franklin’s toughness drag Itauma into deeper rounds, or will the young heavyweight’s power end the fights early again?
Right now, Itauma’s power has solved every problem quickly.
March 28 may reveal how he looks once the fight refuses to end early.
This edition of Rummy’s Corner will attempt to answer that question with a breakdown and preview of the upcoming showdown between Itauma and Franklin. Please watch and enjoy the video for one man’s opinion. This is Rummy’s Corner (written, narrated, and produced by Geoffrey Ciani).
