Tenerife secured a victory in the fifth round of group L in the Round of 16 of the Basketball Champions League, defeating Gran Canaria 79-76 in front of their fans.
Marcelinho Huertas was impressive, scoring 28 points and helping his team achieve a crucial victory. Fran Guerra had 12, and Aaron Doornekamp added ten points. For the visitors, Kassius Robertson scored 23 points, while Nicolas Brussino had a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. Mike Tobey was also excellent, also recording a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.
It turned out that the second quarter was crucial, which the hosts won 20-10, gaining a lead they maintained until the end. The visitors managed to threaten in the final moments with an 8-0 run to get back into the game (78-75), but they couldn’t complete the comeback.
Tenerife now holds a 4-1 record, sitting in first place, and with this triumph, they secured a spot in the Quarterfinals. In the final round, they will play against Trieste. On the other hand, Gran Canaria has a 3-2 record and will face Nymburk in a match that will decide who advances among the top eight.
