Bennedict Mathurin is heading back out west.
The former Arizona Wildcats All-American was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers Thursday in a deal that sent Ivica Zubec to the Indiana Pacers. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Clippers will also receive Isaiah Jackson, two first-round picks and a second-round pick.
Mathurin is averaging a career-high 17.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this season. The 23-year-old was in his fourth season with the Pacers, who are one of the worst teams in the NBA after making the Finals a year ago.
Mathurin joins a Clippers team that just traded away James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Darius Garland. Los Angeles is currently in ninth place in the Western Conference.
Mathurin is in the final year of his rookie contract after not signing an extension last offseason.
Mathurin’s former college teammate, Dalen Terry, was traded again Thursday to the New Orleans Pelicans, less than 12 hours after the Chicago Bulls traded him to the New York Knicks. The Pelicans traded Jose Alvarado Terry and two second-round picks to New York.
Terry, who like Mathurin is in the last year of his rookie deal, should see greater playing time with New Orleans than he was getting in Chicago.
