Chelsea Green reached the summit when she ascended a ladder in the middle of the ring and took down the interim WWE Women’s Championship, winning the five-woman title match at SummerSlam. However, on the edition of “WWE SmackDown” following the “Biggest Party of the Summer,” Green suffered an orbital bone injury, making her status as champion unclear.

Last Friday, Green cut an incredibly emotional promo, pleading with “SmackDown” General Manager Nick Aldis to let her keep her gold. The segment also involved her husband, Matt Cardona, who spoke about his wife’s ascent in WWE, as well as her injury, on “Busted Open Radio.”

“I told her this, I said, ‘I’m actually glad you got hurt, because you were able to cut that heartfelt promo,’ which I think makes her a made woman right now in WWE,” Cardona said. “I think everyone knows how entertaining she is, but she’s so much more than that, and I think that promo on Friday really cemented that.”

Following the promo, Aldis made the decision to grant Green 30 days to get medically cleared and defend her gold. As of this writing, Green is still listed on WWE’s roster page as “interim” WWE Women’s Champion, as the original holder of the title, Rhea Ripley, is on the shelf following surgery for a meniscus tear.

Cardona also had words for GUNTHER, who interrupted Green’s moment last Friday. The confrontation brought out Cardona, which led to the pair having an impromptu match in their street clothes.

“As for GUNTHER, I had no problem with that guy,” he said. “I have no relationship with him… But, if you disrespect my wife, then I have a problem.”
