Substance abuse and pro wrestling were unfortunately synonymous for a long time, with many major stars all giving in to the backstage “drug culture.” Sean Waltman, better known as X-Pac, got his start in the industry as the beloved 1-2-3 Kid, eventually becoming a member of both the nWo and D-Generation X, but like many of his peers, he struggled with substance abuse issues for years.
According to X-Pac, he’s happy to talk about his past with drugs today because it helps other people. During an interview on “Six Feet Under with The Undertaker,” he even admitted that he was so deep into it that he didn’t believe he’d come out of it alive. “I remember there was one point where I called Paul [Triple H] for help, and he came out to LA,” he recalled, adding that even at this point, he disappeared for a while before being found and flown out to Atlanta to a rehab center. “Him and Vince [McMahon] paid for it out of their own pocket.”
Even with help from both Triple H and McMahon, X-Pac added that he still couldn’t get himself together, and ended up being kicked out of rehab for doing drugs while still in the program. “Even once you want [help], or you think you want it, or whatever, even then it’s… Man… It’s just sometimes you just got to go out and suffer some more,” he opined. X-Pac then noted that, in his experience, there are floors beneath “rock bottom,” suggesting that whenever he thought he had it bad, it could get worse.
X-Pac later explained that he was caught in a cycle of rehab and relapse before finally breaking free and being clean today.
