San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has agreed to a five-year, $252 million maximum rookie-scale contract extension, according to multiple reports.
San Antonio announced the deal but didn’t provide financial details.
Before that Victor Wembanyama had all but confirmed his commitment to the San Antonio Spurs, posting a simple but powerful message to the team’s fans on social media.
“Spurs family… I’m here to stay. Whatever it takes,” Wemby wrote on x.com
The statement came as the 22-year-old Frenchman becomes eligible to sign a five-year maximum contract extension reportedly worth up to $303 million, with incentives that could push the total value beyond the $252 million threshold.
Still, Wembanyama decided on the 25% maximum instead of the 30% supermax escalators to $303 million after he and the Spurs went through multiple frameworks, sources said. San Antonio worked in close partnership with Wembanyama and his representatives, offering the full super max and different variations of extensions.
Wembanyama is coming off another spectacular season, averaging 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and an NBA-best 3.1 blocks per game while leading the Spurs to the NBA Finals, where they fell to the New York Knicks.
He was also unanimously voted the NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
