The PFL is about to crown a new welterweight champion.

On Wednesday, the PFL announced that top contenders Thad Jean and Shamil Musaev will square off for the vacant welterweight championship in the main event of PFL D.C., which takes place at the CareFirst Arena on July 25.

Jean is one of the brightest young stars in the PFL. The undefeated prospect won the 2025 PFL welterweight tournament with a unanimous decision win over Logan Storley in August. The 27-year-old has not competed since then.

Musaev, meanwhile, just fought for the vacant PFL welterweight title in February, losing a unanimous decision to former Bellator welterweight champion, Ramazan Kuramagomedov, who immediately announced his retirement from MMA after the fight. Before that, Musaev had amassed a 20-0-1 record, and was the 2024 PFL welterweight champion.

The PFL press release also noted that PFL D.C. will be “the second of three consecutive weeks of PFL action featuring a world championship fight.” With Costello Van Steenis vs. Johnny Eblen 2 taking place the weekend before at PFL Austin, that means the PFL is not done announcing its big summer lineup.
