Tamm Thibeault Dominates Robinson, Captures Three Middleweight Belts

Thibeault used her height, reach and quicker hands to control Robinson from distance. She consistently landed the cleaner punches while forcing the Australian champion to work her way through incoming fire to get close enough to attack.

Robinson kept pressing despite falling behind, turning portions of the fight into a physical battle. Both women finished bloodied, with Thibeault suffering a heavy nosebleed after a clash of heads.

The blood streaming down Thibeault’s face created a dramatic scene during the later rounds, but it did little to change the fight. Robinson continued coming forward and showed considerable toughness, yet she never found a sustained answer for Thibeault’s southpaw boxing.

The victory moves Thibeault to 5-0 with three knockouts and gives her world titles remarkably early in her professional career. Her extensive amateur background included a world championship, Commonwealth and Pan American titles and two Olympic appearances.

Thibeault was emotional afterward, holding her newly won belts while still covered in blood and sharing a respectful moment with Robinson, who dropped to 12-4.

The result leaves Thibeault controlling one half of the middleweight championship picture. Kaye Scott owns the WBA and WBC belts and faces Claressa Shields on August 15 in Atlanta.

If Shields wins, a future fight with Thibeault would offer an obvious route toward an undisputed middleweight championship. With Thibeault only five fights into her professional career, however, MVP must decide how quickly it wants to move its new champion toward the division’s biggest name.
