Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn are finally ready to fight.
On Saturday, Garcia and Benn lock horns for the WBC welterweight title in a highly anticipated grudge match in Las Vegas. The build-up to the fight has been marked by trash talk between the two, but at the ceremonial weigh-ins on Friday, the final faceoff between the two was surprisingly tame.
Garcia walked out to the weigh-ins accompanied by pro-wrestling legend Rey Mysterio, who was carrying a Mexican flag. After completing his ceremonial weigh-in, Garcia did his faceoff with Benn, who stood still as a statue while Garcia bounced up and down, draped in the American flag. Neither man came particularly close to one another, and even their final words before the fight did not carry the same fire as their pre-fight trash talk.
“Tomorrow night is going to be a continuation of the reign that I have right now,” Garcia said. “I’m a world champion, and it’s going to stay that way tomorrow night.”
Benn, meanwhile, made light of the pre-fight rumors that he had a difficult weight cut for the fight.
“Listen, we’ll see Saturday night, won’t we?” Benn said. “We’ll see tomorrow night how good I really feel.”
The co-main event faceoff between Jai Opetaia and Noel Mikaelian was equally as tame, with both men keeping their staredown casual and respectful.
Garcia vs. Benn goes down Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with the broadcast starting at 5 p.m. ET on Paramount+.
