Ryan Garcia insists a rematch with Devin Haney will never happen unless Haney’s side admits there was “something going on” surrounding Garcia’s failed drug tests. Until then, Garcia says Haney will have to live with the image of being dropped and beaten in one of boxing’s biggest rivalries.
Although Haney remains one of the biggest names available, Ryan said the rivalry has reached a dead end unless he receives what he considers the truth.
“This dude, he’s going to have to eat at himself for a while because until he admits that they f*** with my s*** or something that was going on, I’m never going to fight him. I promise you. Unless he tells the truth, I won’t ever,” Garcia told Ring Magazine.
Ryan questioned how Haney’s younger brother publicly predicted he would test positive before the result became public. He noted he had produced clean tests throughout the promotion before the adverse finding surfaced weeks after the fight. Garcia said that sequence has never been explained and remains the reason he refuses to consider another bout with Haney.
The WBC welterweight champion also rejected the idea that his comments are meant to build interest in a rematch.
“If you guys don’t admit some s* you won’t ever see this, bro. And guess what? It’s going to eat at you forever because that iconic picture lives on forever,” said Ryan. “Whenever you talk s* all I got to do is post the picture of me over you. You got to sit with that. So, buddy, either you start telling the truth, or you won’t ever catch this fade again.”
Ryan returns Sept. 12 against Conor Benn. Looking beyond that fight, he identified the winner of Teofimo Lopez and Rolando “Rolly” Romero as the opponent he wants next, while making it clear a second meeting with Haney remains off the table unless his condition is met.
