Real Madrid was between a rock and a hard place, but their comeback is the kind that reignites their hopes for the final title of the season. Scariolo’s men crushed La Laguna Tenerife 118-83 to force a decisive third game in the series.
As is often the case in these kinds of games, the scoring for the winning team was well distributed. Mario Hezonja led all scorers with 20, but he was closely followed by Omer Yurtseven (14), Trey Lyles (13), and Theo Maledon (16), all of whom were essential in surpassing the 116 points that, until today, was Real Madrid‘s highest-scoring game in the Liga Endesa.
The Tenerife hero from the first game shone again in the second, but neither Jaime Fernández’s 14 points nor Patty Mills’ 21 were enough to allow the Tenerife team to even dream of closing the gap.
Despite the lopsided final score, it doesn’t reflect what transpired during the forty minutes. Although the match started with the home team leading 24-21 after the first ten minutes, Real Madrid turned the game around just before halftime (45-51). But the real onslaught for the visitors came after the break. In the blink of an eye, their advantage had ballooned to +22 at 59-81, at which point the game was effectively over, leaving only the final score to be decided.
As the minutes passed, in a relaxed atmosphere and with playing time for the less frequent starters, the thrashing only intensified, reaching +36 (79-115) as the biggest difference of the game.
