Brendan Schaub didn’t hold back when it came to judging the recently announced UFC 332 main event.
Natalia Silva and Wang Cong headline the Oct. 3 event in Salt Lake City with a vacant flyweight title on the line following Valentina Shevchenko relinquishing the belt as she recovers from injuries. Neither Silva nor Wang has been featured in a UFC main event before, and while Silva’s contender accolades are undeniable (she is 8-0 in the UFC and has won her past 14 fights overall), Wang is more unproven. That said, Wang has history with Shevchenko, having defeated the pound-for-pound great in a kickboxing match back in 2015.
No matter how you slice it, though, Schaub isn’t convinced Utah is getting a worthy championship fight.
“It’s a tragedy of a main event,” Schaub said on his YouTube channel. “That is, hands down, no bullshit, no exaggerating, that is the worst main event in UF—in mixed martial arts history. That is the worst main event in—not UFC—mixed martial arts history. Wang Cong should never be f*cking mainlining a card. Should sure as f*ck not be fighting for a title shot. That is mind-blowing.
“There are several other women that are way more well-deserving. This is literally coasting it in. This is literally going, ‘The fan base ain’t going to do shit. Eat this shit pie.’”
Wang has won four straight fights to rebound from her first loss to Gabriella Fernandes. However, she has just one ranked win on her résumé, a unanimous decision nod over Tracy Cortez on the early preliminary card of UFC 329 this past July. At 34, Wang has plenty of combat sports experience, but is still making a name for herself in MMA.
Schaub would love to challenge UFC CEO Dana White to justify Wang’s surprising opportunity.
“This is how bad this main event is,” Schaub said. “I guarantee you if you went up to Dana White and go, ‘Dana, I will give you $1 million, name three opponents Wang Cong has fought.’ He could not do it. ‘How did Wang Cong win her last three fights?’ We all know it’s a decision. Guarantee Dana White cannot do that.
“I’m baffled that this is a f*cking world championship fight on CBS. It’s just the UFC pulling their d*ck out and pissing on all of us.”
As Schaub pointed out, the UFC 332 main card is scheduled to air live on CBS, which is owned by Paramount Skydance, the UFC’s current broadcasting partner. The UFC-Paramount partnership began at the start of 2026 and has been a boon for fans in the United States, who can now watch every UFC event with a subscription to the Paramount+ streaming service.
Schaub argued that as good as the deal is, it has led to some malaise on the part of the matchmakers.
“So they put this great card together and then we’re waiting for this main event,” Schaub said. “Again, they marched the ball all the way down to the 1 and just went, ‘Ah, we’re out. We don’t want to score. We don’t need to do a touchdown.’ I know the UFC, in hindsight it’s better that the pay-per-view model’s not around for us anymore in America, but this is the byproduct. Because now that they know they have your money, they know they don’t have to bank on selling you on $79.99 every month, this is the downside.
“Natalia Silva and Wang Cong, I’m just trying to put myself in the marketing, matchmaker’s room, and they create this great card. The main event, we’ve been waiting, we’ve been waiting, we were thinking it’s going to be Paulo Costa, insert another big name, interim light heavyweight championship. Something big for Salt Lake City. Something big, because remember, the state of Utah pays the UFC to have these big cards. I just want to know who was like, ‘I got it. Natalia Silva vs. Wang Cong.’ And did everyone in the room go, ‘F*ck, dude, that’s sick’? Because if they did, you should all be out of a job.”
Schaub continued his harsh criticism of the main event, going as far as to say that the citizens of Utah should revolt.
“Let me tell you, UFC—I’m trying not to be disrespectful, but you’re making it tough for me right now—if Wang Cong was fighting at P. Terry’s, five minutes from my house, Saturday night, giving out free cheeseburgers and then fighting Natalia Silva, I would not show up,” Schaub said. “If they were five minutes from my house and you offered me $100 to watch Wang Cong fight, I would not show up in person, let alone pay hundreds of dollars if I’m a Salt Lake local to watch that bullshit. It is so discouraging, it is so disheartening that this is the main event and the UFC goes, ‘You’re not going to do shit.’
“There has to be some sort of repercussions. If I’m Utah, I’m like, ‘I’m not paying for this anymore.’ The UFC next time, ‘We’re good, man. You guys f*cked us. This is terrible.’”
Schaub went on to insist that he isn’t taking shots at the UFC for no reason. Rather, ideally, a negative reaction from fans would lead to positive changes with the current product.
“I want some sort of repercussion,” Schaub said. “I’m not saying I want the UFC to go bankrupt. What I want is for Salt Lake City’s fans to buy zero tickets. This is the problem: Outside of Natalia Silva-Wang Cong, the fight card is amazing, one of the best of the year. All you had to do was give us a suitable main event and this card’s cooking.”
“This is terrible and all I want is there to be some sort of backlash. All I want is Salt Lake City to not sell this thing out, so it forces the UFC’s hand to give us better main events.”

Look, UFC 332 is perfectly fine for a UFC Fight Night card. But, uh, if you have to buy this (as many do outside of the U.S.), maybe just keep it locked to MMA Fighting and we’ll update you on the important things.
Is Natalia Silva vs. Wang Cong the worst UFC headliner ever for a numbered event?
I mean, I don’t think so, but people are saying it.
ICYMI: Natalia Silva and Wang Cong get their chance to claim a vacant flyweight belt in the main event of UFC 332 with Valentina Shevchenko sidelined due to injury and unable to compete until 2027.
It’s hard not to be a little cynical about the how the matchup was thrown together given that UFC 332 needed a headlining bout with tickets having already gone on sale and the show less than a month away, but is it really that bad?
In the history of numbered UFC events, is it truly the worst main event ever?
