A key detail has emerged regarding Mario Hezonja’s return to the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Hezonja signed a one-year, non-guaranteed contract. His $2.8 million salary will become fully guaranteed if he remains on Cleveland’s roster beyond November 15.

The agreement followed several days of uncertainty surrounding his departure from Real Madrid, which officially confirmed the end of his four-year spell with the club on July 31.

However it has to be noted that the NBA has informed its franchises that in case a player get signed and then cut without any cost just to facilitate a move back to Europe, then they are in danger of a hefty fine.

Hezonja, 31, returns to the NBA after being named the 2025-26 Liga Endesa MVP. During his time with Real Madrid, he won six trophies, including the 2023 EuroLeague championship and two Spanish league titles.
