A former AEW champion is currently sidelined for an undetermined amount of time after a hot few months in the company.

According to Fightful Select, former TBS Champion Maya World had to undergo a procedure over the last week, but the hope within AEW is that she’ll be back soon, though an official timeline wasn’t reported. The outlet reported that star isn’t expected to be in attendance at “AEW Dynamite” in Norfolk, Virginia on Wednesday, and she also had to pull out of some other upcoming dates.

World was signed to AEW alongside frequent tag team partner Hyan at the end of 2025, after the pair stepped in at the last minute for a match on “AEW Collision.” The former champion was further thrust into the spotlight when she replaced an injured Sareee in the 2026 Owen Hart Foundation tournament. She’d go on to defeat the likes of Skye Blue, as well as Athena, and faced Mercedes Mone in the final at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in the tournament final.

She won the TBS Championship from Hikaru Shida at AEW Redemption in July. World would have a series of successful defenses before losing the gold to CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone at AEW All In London, thanks to interference by the returning Britt Baker.

Her most recent match prior to the reported procedure was a six-woman tag team match alongside Hyan and Mexican National Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa in a loss to Baker, Shida, and Persephone on “Dynamite: Rebel Heart” on September 9.
