Greece secured their fourth victory in the World Cup qualifiers by defeating Spain 108-106 in overtime in Athens.
The visitors nearly pulled off a shocking win, but Calathes played excellent defense on Brizuela in the final possession, keeping the points in Athens.
Before that, we witnessed drama, as it seemed the hosts would win more easily when Greece had a 12-point lead (72-60) at the start of the final quarter. However, Spain fought back into the game, and eventually Juancho Hernangomez forced overtime for his team with a three-pointer 11 seconds before the end of regulation (86-86).
Nonetheless, the Greeks were more composed in overtime, and although Vasileios Toliopoulos missed a free throw 11 seconds before the end, giving Spain a chance, the visitors did not capitalize on it.
Tyler Dorsey and Dinos Mitoglou each scored 29 points for Greece, while Nick Calathes had 13 points and eight assists. On the other side, Joel Parra scored 18 points, Mario Saint-Supery 16, and Aday Mara 15 points along with 13 rebounds.
Spain now stands at a 5-3 record, while Greece has four wins and four losses.
