Floyd Schofield Jr. finally gets his shot at a world title, taking on Lucas Bahdi for the vacant WBA lightweight belt on October 10.
Golden Boy and Most Valuable Promotions reached a deal, bypassing the scheduled WBA purse bid and its $150,000 minimum. Schofield announced the agreement on social media.
“The fight takes place October 10. We are 99% sure it will be in Las Vegas,” Schofield’s manager Michael Miller said to The Ring. “We are thankful for the chance to fight for a title. It is something we have waited on for years.”
Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) holds the WBA No. 1 ranking, while Bahdi sits at No. 2. They will fight for the belt vacated by Gervonta Davis. The Ring ranks Schofield No. 6 and Bahdi No. 8 in the division.
The bout gives the 23-year-old Schofield another chance to fight for a championship after his scheduled challenge of Shakur Stevenson fell apart in February 2025. Schofield pulled out during fight week due to illness.
Four months later, Schofield returned to knock out former junior lightweight champion Tevin Farmer in the first round. He has not boxed since that June 2025 win, leaving him with a 16-month layoff when he steps in against Bahdi.
Bahdi (20-0, 15 KOs) has built a stronger case for a title shot since his sixth-round knockout of Ashton Sylve in July 2024. The 32-year-old Canadian then beat Armando Casamonica and Ryan James Racaza, handing both men their first professional defeats.
In his most recent outing last August, Bahdi earned a 12-round unanimous decision against former WBA junior lightweight champion Roger Gutierrez.
Schofield brings speed and youth into the ring. Bahdi has already wrecked Ashton Sylve’s plans and handed three opponents their first professional losses. Schofield’s long-awaited title opportunity comes against a fighter with enough power to spoil it.
