The EuroLeague officially launched preparations for the 2026-27 season as its General Assembly met in Barcelona to approve the competition formats, participating teams and the official calendar for the upcoming campaign.
Among the key decisions was the approval of the SuperCup, a new competition set to debut in September 2026. The Assembly also confirmed the format of both the EuroLeague and the BKT EuroCup.
Beyond the sporting decisions, the league reported another strong financial year. Euroleague Basketball announced that revenues for the 2025-26 season exceeded initial projections by 10 percent, while forecasting an additional 7 percent growth in 2026-27.
The Assembly also approved amendments to the competition ByLaws, including measures aimed at improving player workload management and travel conditions, updated disciplinary guidelines, and the removal of the previously planned High Remuneration Level from the Financial Stability & Fair Play Regulations. All other Financial Stability & Fair Play rules will remain in force.
In addition, the agreement with the Union of Euroleague Basketball Officials (UEBO) was extended for another three seasons.
EuroLeague Basketball president Dejan Bodiroga emphasized the importance of collaboration as European club basketball continues to expand.
“Today’s General Assembly and tomorrow’s EuroCup Clubs Meeting give us a unique opportunity to connect with clubs and domestic leagues, exchange ideas and set the foundations for that future.
European club basketball is experiencing remarkable momentum thanks to the passion, dedication, and invaluable contributions of all its stakeholders. Our commitment is to build on this momentum, continue supporting its growth, and strengthen the collective effort that is shaping an even brighter future for our sport.”
CEO Chus Bueno echoed that message, describing the meeting as the beginning of a new chapter.
“The General Assembly marks the formal start of a new season. The 2025-26 season was exceptional across all Euroleague Basketball competitions, and its moments will remain in our memory for years to come. But now it is time to look to the future.
Not only to next season, which promises to raise the bar once again, with an even stronger EuroLeague, a revamped BKT EuroCup and the continued growth of the adidas NextGen EuroLeague, but also looking at the long-term evolution of European club basketball from a fan-centric, forward-thinking, innovative and integrative mindset.“
