Edgar Berlanga revisited both his loss to Hamzah Sheeraz and his fight against Saul Alvarez during a lengthy interview, insisting he still believes “something was off” in the Sheeraz bout while also revealing the trash talk exchanged with Canelo inside the ring.

Berlanga said he immediately felt something unusual during the Sheeraz fight and claimed the punches did not feel normal compared to what he experienced against Canelo.

“A thousand percent. I knew something was off, bro. I knew when it happened, I knew something was off,” said Berlanga to The Danza Project. “When the lights was on and I was just sitting in the corner, I was like, ‘Damn, bro.’ I train my ass off for this fight. I did a 10-week camp. I was in the best shape of my life. That shot didn’t feel like a punch. I’ve been boxing for 22 years. You know whether it was a punch or an object, bro. But no excuses. I take my losses how it is. I just got to run it back. I know we going to run it back.”

Berlanga then compared the experience to what he felt during his fight with Canelo, saying the Mexican star’s punches felt completely different.

“You seen with Canelo, Canelo hits hard,” said Berlanga. “You going to know. When Canelo hit me, yeah, I was hurt at the moment, but I shook it off while we was still getting it on. Me and him was talking crazy in the ring. I told him, ‘You hit like a bitch.’ He told me, ‘My son hit harder than you.’ We kept going back and forth. I hooked him and was talking to him in Spanish. It was like Kobe versus Michael Jordan in there.”

Berlanga also rejected the idea that he was making excuses for the Sheeraz loss, saying he fully accepted his defeat to Canelo but believes the circumstances against Sheeraz were different.

“Canelo beat me fair and square. He got much more experience than me. He beat me. But that other s**t, man, I’m like, ‘Yo, bro, come on, man.’”

The interview comes as Berlanga prepares for the next stage of his career under Zuffa Boxing after signing with Dana White’s new promotional venture earlier this year.
