The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is returning to “WWE NXT.”
“NXT” General Manager Robert Stone confirmed as such on Tuesday night, making good on his promise recently heard at “NXT” Heatwave. “Well at Heatwave, I said I wanted to enhance the tag team division,” he said in a backstage segment with Emily Agard. “I feel like I’ve done that. I brought the Creed Brothers back, and every match you see, all the wrestlers, they’re leaving it all in the ring. Which is why I am so excited to officially announce I am bringing back the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. There’s going to be 14 teams from AAA, NXT, Evolve, even Raw and SmackDown.”
As of this writing, the competitors in the 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic have yet to be revealed. The official brackets are expected to be dropped on social media later this week, however. The tournament action itself will begin next week with two opening round matches.
The most recent tag team tourney saw Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin defeat Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes in the finals. Breakker and Corbin, together known as the WolfDogs, then went on to capture the NXT Tag Team Championships shortly after.
The classic, named after the late WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, first launched in 2015. The Creed Brothers, who recently returned to the “NXT” brand, won the 2022 iteration. Since 2018, all winners have received a future NXT Tag Team Championship match.
Whether or not the women’s edition of the Dusty Rhodes Classic will return this year as well has yet to be seen.
