Miami Heat guard Davion Mitchell is focusing entirely on building championship chemistry and blocking out external noise ahead of his upcoming 2026–27 campaign. Speaking Thursday at the Heat’s annual back-to-school shopping spree at a Miami Walmart, the 27-year-old point guard opened up about his summer travels, which included intense workouts in Spain and a trip to Greece to train alongside his new teammate, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“I’m just trying to be the best player I can be,” he said, addressing the public pressure. “Honestly, I can’t really change the way they think. But for me, I’m just going to go out there and get better.”
For Mitchell, the offseason has been less about individual validation and more about constructing a cohesive foundation with Miami’s foundational stars.
“Obviously, trying to build a chemistry with Giannis. Obviously, people see me in Greece. Building chemistry with Bam, obviously seeing those things. But just trying to be the best teammate I can be for them,” he explained.
The time spent in Europe with the Greek Freak proved invaluable, offering a firsthand look at the daily mindset of a champion.
“He’s a winner. He just wants to win,” he described Giannis. “I was just trying to learn the places I need to be on the court, what makes him more comfortable.”
“He’s been in the league for so long that he knows how everyone’s going to guard him and he knows how everyone’s going to guard me,” added Mitchell. “He’s trying to find ways for me to be successful, and I’m just trying to do the things for him.”
