Da’Mazion Vanhouter Leaves Raphael Akpejiori Unconscious

Akpejiori owned advantages in height, reach and professional experience, but none helped once Vanhouter found the target. His long arms offered no defensive barrier, and his punch resistance failed him for the third time in four fights.

The result gave Vanhouter his fifth consecutive stoppage and fourth straight first-round knockout. He had needed only 66 seconds to remove Raphael Murphy in May, and Akpejiori proved no more difficult despite carrying far greater size.

Zuffa Boxing has promoted the 21-year-old as “America’s best young heavyweight,” and this was the violent finish selected to support that label on the Ryan Garcia-Conor Benn undercard. Vanhouter supplied exactly the kind of clip the promotion wanted.

Still, knocking out Akpejiori does not establish Vanhouter as the leading American prospect. Stephan Shaw stopped the same opponent in the opening round in April 2025, while Mourad Aliev defeated him by decision in May. Akpejiori brought an imposing physique and a glossy knockout total, but recent results had already exposed his limitations.

Vanhouter’s physical development remains the more unusual part of his story. He began his professional career at 154 pounds in 2022 and now carries more than 230 pounds on a 6 foot 2 body. That transformation has produced serious heavyweight power without making him look slow against carefully selected opposition.

The next test must last long enough to reveal more. Zuffa knows Vanhouter can destroy a vulnerable target, but it still needs to learn how he reacts when a durable heavyweight survives his opening attack and forces him to work.
