Carlos Adames has redirected his attention to WBO middleweight champion Denzel Bentley after revealing that his team reached out to champions three months ago without landing a fight.
The WBC middleweight champion identified Bentley as the only titleholder who has publicly welcomed the matchup.
“Three months ago, my manager reached out to the champions at 168. You can already guess what happened,” Adames posted on X. “Now, there’s one warrior who’s actually called me out. If you really want it, I’m ready. Tell your promoter to make the fight. Let’s unify.”
Adames followed with another message directed at the British champion.
“My people, there’s a brave one willing to step up and face me, and what an incredible unification it would be. I’ll even come to your hometown.”
He initially looked toward the super middleweight division, publicly pursuing IBF champion Osleys Iglesias. The two exchanged messages across social media, and reports later linked their camps to negotiations for a championship fight.
No agreement emerged. Adames later claimed Iglesias walked away from the matchup, while Iglesias’ side indicated it remained willing to move forward. Neither camp explained why the talks ended without a deal.
With the Iglesias bout no longer progressing, Adames has turned his focus back to the middleweight division and a unification clash with Bentley. The matchup offers a very different challenge from one against Iglesias, whose punching power, southpaw stance, dangerous right hook and refined technique developed through Cuba’s national boxing program have made him one of boxing’s toughest assignments at 168 pounds.
