Bryce Mitchell keeps finding new ways to put his body through the wringer.
The same man who once accidentally took a drill to his scrotum was apparently at it again recently as he told reporters of another nasty injury he recently suffered ahead of his upcoming fight with Santiago Luna this Saturday at UFC Vegas 118. This time, it involved Mitchell’s nipples and a dangerous chemical reaction.
“It was accidentally,” Mitchell said at UFC Vegas 118 media day on Wednesday. “I tell you what happened is I had some laundry detergent that got stuck in my shirt. I started doing a workout and that shirt and the laundry detergent got all in my skin and the suds were coming out of my shirt and I didn’t know what was happening, so I kept training. I was actually with TJ [Brown] and there were suds coming out and we were laughing. At first, we thought I was sweating out all the milk that I drink, because I drank a gallon of milk.
“Then it started getting bubbly and foamy and I was like, ‘No, bro, that’s not milk. That’s soap.’”
Once Mitchell realized what was actually happening, it was too late, and soon enough his chest was burning from whatever the detergent was doing to his body.
“And then by that time we figured out it was soap, my nipples were already on fire, and it actually literally just burnt my nipples bad,” Mitchell continued. “So make sure you be careful about what detergent you use because your nipples are sensitive to that type of stuff.”
Fortunately for Mitchell, the nipple nightmare didn’t cause any serious harm and he remained on schedule for his first fight of 2026. Mitchell seeks consistency after alternating wins and losses in his past seven fights and he nearly missed out on his chance to right the ship when original opponent Victor Henry bowed out due to injury. Luna steps in on just nine days’ notice to take Henry’s place.
Prior to the Mitchell-Henry fight being announced, Henry’s coach Josh Barnett appeared to be calling Mitchell out on social media, claiming there was an opponent unwilling to sign on the dotted line to face Henry. With the matchup having come and gone, Mitchell bears no ill will towards Henry and his team and is actually grateful for how they handled the situation once Henry had to withdraw.
“I’ve only talked to Josh once, he messaged me right when Victor got hurt,” Mitchell said. “He said, ‘Hey, Victor can’t take the fight. His knee is just totally torn.’ And I just felt really, really good hearing from his coach and Victor messaged me, too. That’s what you call a class act because he had no incentive to message me and say, ‘Hey, my guy’s hurt,’ but he wanted to tell me as quick as possible, be as transparent as possible, and I really respect Mr. Barnett and Mr. Henry for that and God bless him and I hope and pray that he heals up fast. I’ve been praying for him a bunch.
“That just makes me even more grateful because a lot of stuff goes wrong with us, we have little injuries and stuff like that we can complain about, but Victor Henry’s out for a year. He has to get a surgery, he can’t walk right now, so remember that next time you’re complaining about a weight cut or whatever one of these fighters is complaining about. It could generally be worse.”
