Olympiacos head coach Giorgos Bartzokas has confirmed that Giannoulis Larentzakis will not continue with the club for the upcoming 2026–27 season.
Speaking in a comprehensive interview with Eurohoops ahead of the team’s official preseason Media Day, the experienced strategist addressed the shifting landscape of his squad. Bartzokas clarified that the 32-year-old guard, who is on the verge of turning 33, has been left off this year’s roster as part of a broader tactical overhaul aimed at altering the team’s profile and competitive approach.
When asked directly about the latest personal adjustments and the philosophy behind restructuring the squad, the 61-year-old play-caller explicitly confirmed Larentzakis’ departure while elaborating on the sweeping changes.
“We refreshed the roster, in terms of age and competition,” he shared with Eurohoops. “Walkup, Larentzakis, Fall and Peters will not be with us for different reasons each.”
The announcement effectively ends Larentzakis’ notable six-year tenure in Piraeus, signaling a new chapter for the veteran guard. He is now heavily linked with a return to a highly familiar environment, having reached a verbal agreement with AEK, where he played between 2016 and 2019, capturing the Basketball Champions League title and a FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Representatives are working through the final technicalities required to formally terminate his remaining contract with the Reds, paving the way for his return to the Queen under a 2+1 year deal.
