WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman has taken offense to being called one of the greatest minds in the business and asserted that he is the greatest mind in pro wrestling history.
Heyman recently spoke to “VGC,” where he was introduced by the interviewer as one of the greatest minds in pro wrestling. The legendary manager didn’t take too kindly to that introduction, claiming that being called “one of” rather than “the greatest” doesn’t sit well with him.
“One of the greatest minds? Not the greatest mind? I’ll explain this to you. ‘One of’ is an insult. The ‘greatest’ is not. If you are in bed with your spouse and after a passionate night of lovemaking, your spouse turns to you and says, ‘You’re one of the greatest lovers I’ve ever been with.’ Would you be happy or would you be looking for a new spouse the next morning? Who wouldn’t be happy? You’d be filing for divorce,” he explained.
When the interviewer explained that he referred to Heyman as one of the greatest minds in pro wrestling out of respect for the late Bobby Heenan, Heyman bluntly noted that Heenan is dead while also explaining why he considers himself the greatest.
“Let’s just have this debate right now. I’m so sick of hearing that name. How many champions has Bobby Heenan managed? You can count them on one hand. You can’t count mine on one, you can barely count them on two. How many WrestleMania main events was he in? The only person that’s been in more WrestleMania main events than me is Roman Reigns. If you want to just say, ‘Well, that doesn’t count because you’re a manager, an Advocate, a Wiseman, an Oracle.’ Okay, so let’s put it this way. When I’m in people’s corners in WrestleMania, the number is 10. You know who’s in second place? Stephanie McMahon. You know what number she’s at? 3. Please tell me how anybody measures up to my accomplishments.”
He concluded the argument by saying that he has managed more champions and that Heenan is not in his league when it comes to accomplishments as a manager.
