At Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2017, AJ Styles and Finn Balor wrestled against the first time ever, and it was nothing short of impressive, with both men unsurprisingly stealing the show and providing a glimpse of what fans could expect from them in the ring for years to come. However, during a recent episode of “WWE Retrospective,” Styles revealed that his match with Balor at TLC wasn’t originally supposed to happen, sharing that he flew from South America to Miami, Florida on the same day to fill in for Bray Wyatt, who came down with an illness and was unable to wrestle “The Demon.”

“They said, AJ, you’re now in the first match of the show. You are going to wrestle and go straight to the airport, get on a plane, fly to Miami. We will pick you up in the WWE jet, fly you to wherever we were, and then you’re going to wrestle Finn Balor that night. That’s how quick it happened,” he explained. “Not only did we get this match while we were still hot in people’s mind that these two guys were in the Bullet Club, I got to wrestle ‘The Demon’ … I was excited to be in the ring with him, I’m going to be honest. And I know people would enjoy this moment of these two guys in the ring together.”

Styles continued to praise Balor for his work ethic over the years, explaining that every match he had with him was a “piece of cake” and that there’s not one encounter with the Irish star that he didn’t enjoy.
