As co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney target promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking, the Welsh side could go all out in the transfer market.

According to Sky Sports, Wrexham have joined Crystal Palace in the race to sign Cherif from Angers before the end of the window.

Club officials have opened talks with Angers to explore conditions for a deal.

It is understood the French side would like £19million in total for the forward.

Should a deal be agreed for that fee, Cherif will become the most expensive Championship signing of all time.

Sindre Walle Egeli became the most expensive player in the league’s history last summer when he joined Ipswich Town from Danish side Nordsjaelland in a £17.5m deal.

As things stand, Crystal Palace are still looking to push ahead with a deal for the 19-year-old.

However, they are not willing to overpay.
