Victor Wembanyama continued his relentless march toward the MVP trophy on Wednesday night, delivering a commanding performance to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 127-113 victory over the Golden State Warriors. In just 29 minutes of action, the French phenom racked up 41 points, 18 rebounds, and three blocks, looking every bit the generational force that has transformed San Antonio into a title contender.

Despite the dominant outing, the 22-year-old center maintained a level of perspective regarding the state of his opponents. “As a competitor, it’s always very sad to see teams that are hurt deep in their roster,” he stated, opening his postgame press conference.

Wemby’s efficiency was the story of the night. He dismantled the shorthanded Warriors‘ interior defense, shooting 16-of-22 from the field and an imposing 14-of-16 from inside the arc. Whether finishing lobs or rejecting shots at the rim, his presence dictated the tempo, allowing the Spurs to cruise to their tenth consecutive win and a 58-18 record. They remain just two games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the top seed in the West.

With the 2026 NBA Playoffs, presented by Google, looming, the Le Chesnay native admitted he is already looking toward his first postseason appearance in the league. “I’m thinking about a lot but not all the time either, because we have so many quick turnarounds, so we don’t have so much time,” he added. “I’m super excited.”

While the Warriors struggled without Stephen Curry, they received modest contributions from Turkish center Omer Yurtseven with 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and Dutch forward Malevy Leons with five points, five assists, and two steals. However, Golden State had no answer for Wembanyama’s length, especially with Kristaps Porzingis and Quinten Post sidelined.

The focus in the Bay Area remains on Curry’s recovery from patellofemoral pain syndrome. The Warriors issued an update before the game stating Curry participated in a five-on-five scrimmage on Tuesday and continues to progress through return-to-play protocols. He is tentatively targeting a Sunday return against the Houston Rockets, pending another scrimmage later this week and a final evaluation over the weekend.

The Spurs travel to face the Clippers on Thursday, while the 10th-place Warriors remain home to host the Cleveland Cavaliers.
