JAMES MADDISON and Mason Mount tugged at fans’ heartstrings with a wholesome moment on Monday Night Football.

Tottenham playmaker Maddison was on punditry duties with the Sky Sports crew as he continues his long recovery from an ACL tear.

And he watched Mount put in an excellent display at Molineux, with the Manchester United star scoring in a 4-1 win over Wolves.

Mount has been pestered by injury issues since completing his £60million move from Chelsea in 2023 – limiting him to just 31 combined Premier League appearances across his first two seasons at United.

But he’s already up to 12 this term, and with three goals to his name, he’s on course for his best campaign yet.

Maddison said: “No question from me, mate. I couldn’t think of one! Just wanted to say I thought you were brilliant tonight.

“We were talking [about it] off camera. So many touches of class. You look like you’re back to your firing best.

“I was saying to these, you’re such a good guy off the pitch with a great family and a great network.

“It’s a pleasure to see you playing like that, mate, and having a smile on your face after a tough period out. Buzzing for you, mate.”

Mount responded with his own touch of class amid Maddison’s fight to be back on the pitch before the end of the season.

He said: “I really appreciate that, mate. It’s obviously good to be back out. I know we obviously spoke after we played [each other].

“I’m feeling good at the moment. We love being on the pitch and being able to create chances and be on the ball. And I’m looking forward to seeing when you’re back, mate.”

Fans lapped up the interaction between two of football’s good guys.

Another posted: “Sportsmanship at its best! Love it!”

A third commented: “Well said Maddison, good on ya fella.”

And a fourth chimed in with: “This was beautiful, can’t wait to see James Maddison back on the pitch again!”

Mount scored United’s third of the evening with a well-taken volley before Bruno Fernandes bagged their fourth from the spot as darts sensation Luke Littler watched on from the away end.

The points moved United up to sixth in the table, and Mount is proving a useful weapon for Ruben Amorim in an attack that faltered last season.

The Red Devils host Bournemouth and then travel to Aston Villa in their final two games before Christmas as Mount bids to fight his way into Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup plans.
