Surrey’s Walton Heath Golf Club were crowned English Women’s Champion Club at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club in Suffolk after fending off the challenges of 23 other teams from rival counties.
The trio of Jenny Justice and sisters Annabel and Emily Peaford shone to shoot an overall +16 across the two days to finish five shots clear of their nearest challengers, Princes Golf Club in Kent.
With the two best scores from each team of three counting, sisters Annabel and Emily – who are both part of the England Golf National Squads – delivered on both days.
SISTERS TO THE FORE
Annabel shot rounds of 71 and 73 around the par-73 course, including an eagle on each day, while Emily shot 81 and 83, meaning Walton Heath finished five ahead of Princes’ team of Teagan Ford, Alessandra Mitchell and Sandy Hallet.
Annabel said: “It means a lot, I have been a member at Walton Heath since I was seven years old and I am always proud to represent them. Emily and I were part of the team that won the title in 2023, so it was great to win it again. It was really good fun having Jenny in the team, as well as having the whole Justice family and Debbie to caddy and support us!”
TESTING CONDITIONS
She added: “We got the toughest side of the draw yesterday, playing in some of the worst conditions I have ever experienced on a golf course. I knew that if we had some better weather today that we could have a better day and catch up with the leaders. In this format of golf anything can happen so it was great to have a determined attitude in the team to get the job done.”
Asked about winning alongside her sister, she added: “It is always great when we win together, she is a very determined teammate and we both know that we are giving it our all even when the conditions are horrendous. We are both proud to bring the trophy back to Walton Heath!”
Northamptonshire County Golf Club. whose team comprised Katie Amos and sisters Harriet and Millicent Billson, were another four shots back in third, with Greetham Valley three shots back in fourth.
