UFC CEO Dana White seemed surprised, but not at all rattled by the shooting Saturday at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
White attended the dinner as a guest of President Donald Trump at the Washington Hilton when a gunman, later identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, Calif., opened fire. One officer was shot but was protected by his bulletproof vest and was “doing great” while recovering at a local hospital according to Trump.
White reacted to the incident in an interview with USA Today, saying he “didn’t get down,” and that the situation was “f*cking awesome.” CBS’ Tony Dokoupil posted a video on Twitter showing what happened in the ballroom, where White was seen looking relaxed.
“We were sitting right in front of the table. Right in front of where the president was,” White said in the interview. “Nobody got tackled but guys came in looking for shooters and then came towards our table. I thought the shooter was by us or something.”
Trump revealed that the suspect was armed with multiple weapons and charged through a security checkpoint before opening fire. The White House Correspondents’ Dinner will be rescheduled to a later date following the incident.
