Johnny Manziel was a professional athlete, and Bob Menery is a comedian, and their fight went as one would expect.
On Saturday, Manziel and Menery squared off in the main event of Brand Risk 14, the influencer fight promotion helmed by Adin Ross. The matchup had been building for a long time, dating back to when Menery was a part-owner of the Fan Controlled Football team that Manziel played for. But that long-growing tension did not lead to a long-lasting fight, as Manziel ran through Menery in just over two minutes when they finally did meet in the ring.
A former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback, Manziel was noticeably larger than Menery when the fight started, and despite neither man showing a deep bag of skills, that size and athleticism proved decisive. Both men came out throwing wild strikes, with Manziel getting the better of things, until the former football player tackled Menery.
From there, the comedian didn’t have much to offer from his back, as Manziel moved into mount and pummeled Menery with hammerfists and punches until the referee finally intervened.
After the fight, Manziel gave credit to Menery for stepping into the ring, said he “needs a cigarette,” and then declared that he has no interest in fighting again.
“Probably not, but this was good enough for one time,” Manziel said about competing again.
Menery, meanwhile, was displeased with the stoppage, saying he wasn’t hurt, but admitted that he was unlikely to win the fight.
“At the end of the day, I was still fine, but he dominated me,” Menery said. “I wish it had gone one more round, but it got called.”
