Frank Sanchez delivered a jaw-dropping one-punch knockout to end Richard Torrez Jr.’s undefeated run as part of the Usyk vs. Rico card on Saturday.

The Cuban born heavyweight ended the fight after he unleashed a brutal uppercut that cracked Torrez and sent him crashing to the canvas in a heap. Torrez was pretty clearly done, although he made an attempt to get back to his feet but the referee already knew the fight was over.

The official stoppage came at 55 seconds into the second round.

“I’ve been working the whole time in the gym with my great team,” Sanchez said after his win. “I’m ready for whoever is next. I had to work a lot, he was a pressure fighter but I know I’m a great boxer and I can out box anyone when I’m on.

“I was working on my trainer a lot. I was in the dressing room [throwing the uppercut] and it came through.”

It was an impressive win for Sanchez, especially considering the attention being paid to Torrez as a potential title challenger in the future after he started his career with a perfect 14-0 record and winning a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics.

That record now shows a loss after Sanchez delivered one of the nastiest knockouts in recent history.

With the win, Sanchez also claims the title eliminator in the IBF heavyweight division, which puts him in line for a potential showdown against Oleksandr Usyk, who currently holds that title. Usyk competes in the main event on Saturday against former GLORY heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven.
