Márcio Barbosa made quite a debut at UFC Winnipeg after scoring a devastating one-punch knockout to flatten Dennis Bazukja in the featured prelim on Saturday night.
Well known for his fight-finishing power, the Brazilian showed that off in a huge way after inviting Bazukja to stand and trade with him. He paid for that decision after Barbosa uncorked a hellacious left hook that landed clean and sent Bazukja crashing to the canvas in a heap.
The referee immediately jumped in to stop the fight with the end coming at just 1:20 into the opening round.
“I visualized all of this,” Barbosa said after the win. “I’m such a dedicated fighter. I train so hard. I came in, I’m going to be a champion at this division. Wherever this hand goes, nobody is going to get up from it.”
Coming into the fight, Barbosa had delivered four consecutive first-round knockouts, which included his appearance on The Contender Series where he earned his UFC contract.
He lived up to that hype with his performance against Bazukja as he displayed his nasty striking and unreal power after needing just one punch to end the fight.
At just 27 years old, Barbosa seems like a prospect worth watching as he moves deeper into his UFC career, especially after making such a jaw-dropping debut at UFC Winnipeg.
