Aaron Tau’s Road to UFC has come to an end.
A person with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that the UFC has decided to cut ties with Tau following his fight being cancelled prior to UFC 325. MMA Ecosystem first reported the news.
Tau was slated to compete in a Road to UFC Season 4 flyweight finals matchup against Namsrai Batbayar at UFC 325, but the bout was scratched after Tau appeared to maneuver his way around the weigh-in, using the box to help shave off the reading of his weight — which showed at 122.5 pounds. Tau was asked to re-weigh after the suspicious nature of the moment, and he weighed in at 129 pounds without the box around him.
While commentator John Gooden said during the UFC 325 preliminary broadcast that the matchup between Tau and Batbayar would be rebooked at a later date, that is no longer the case with Tau being taken out of consideration.
It was Tau’s second chance to get his shot at the UFC.
In September 2024, “Tauzemup” was defeated by Elijah Smith on Dana White’s Contender Series. Tau earned his spot in the RTU finals with a pair of wins against Rio Tirto and Shuai Yin during the first two rounds of the tournament. Tau is 11-1 overall as a pro, including becoming a two-division champion in XFC.
