Gilbert Burns wasted no time in his return to the mats Thursday, tapping out Horlando Monteiro in the co-main event of UFC BJJ 9 in Las Vegas.
The former UFC fighter transitioned back to jiu-after hanging up his MMA gloves in April and made short work of Monteiro at the Meta APEX, taking his back and locking in the rear-naked choke to force the tap in just 82 seconds.
“I’m back to my roots,” Burns said after the win. “Try to stop me.”
The card also featured the return of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir’s daughter Bella Mir, who needed three rounds to get Nichelle Johnson’s arm for the finish. Bella Mir, 4-0 as a pro MMA fighter, improved to 3-0 under the UFC BJJ banner.
