Tony Parker, the majority owner and president of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne since 2014, has confirmed his intention to transition into a head-coaching career while simultaneously negotiating the sale of the French club. Driven by a desire to return to the sidelines, Parker told L’Équipe, “I miss being on the court,” signaling a shift from executive leadership to direct on-court responsibility.

The 43-year-old four-time NBA champion is already scheduled to make his coaching debut this summer, leading France’s U17 national team at the 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup in Turkiye. However, he is also considering taking the reins at ASVEL as early as next season, potentially succeeding current coach Pierric Poupet.

To secure the club’s future, Parker is in advanced talks to sell ASVEL to one of four large American investment funds. These investors want him to stay involved in a long-term leadership role even if he sells his majority stake.

The San Antonio Spurs legend believes a new NBA Europe league is coming soon. ASVEL will apply for a permanent spot in this competition by March, with a final decision expected in May or June 2026. To prepare for his new role, Parker is training under former national coach Vincent Collet, who might join him at ASVEL as an assistant coach.

Meanwhile, Parker is currently pursuing his coaching certification under the mentorship of Vincent Collet, with the experienced tactician potentially serving as an assistant head coach under Parker to support him in his transition as well.
