The rock-bottom Championship outfit had already been hit with a 12-point deduction after filing for administration in October.

Wednesday are now a staggering 27 points from safety with Swansea City sitting in 21st place with 17 points.

The club even are 23 points from 23rd Norwich City – leaving them doomed for relegation to League One.

The second deduction came due to the club breaching EFL regulations.

An EFL statement said: “Sheffield Wednesday FC are to be deducted six points with immediate effect for multiple breaches of EFL regulations relating to payment obligations, with the club’s former owner, Mr Dejphon Chansiri, prohibited from being an owner or director of any EFL club for a period of three years.

“The sanctions on both the club and Mr Chansiri can be confirmed after the parties reached an agreement on the appropriate sanction which was subsequently ratified by the chair of the appointed independent disciplinary commission.”

The crisis club has reportedly received an offer from former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.

The British billionaire – worth an estimated £3.1million – is claimed to have tabled a £20m offer for the Yorkshire club.
