Ryan Garcia’s B Sample Confirms Positive PED Test, Potential Suspension Looms for the young superstar phenom. Garcia’s B sample results have reportedly come back positive for the banned PED substance Ostarine, which were identical to his A sample for his two positive tests from last April for his victory over Devin Haney.
New York Commission to Hold Hearing, Potential Consequences
Boxing analyst Dan Rafael reports on X that Ryan’s B sample was positive after being opened yesterday. The New York Commission will hold a hearing in the summer to decide on Ryan Garcia’s case.
At that point, Ryan could receive a suspension and fine as his victory could be overturned. Haney wants to be given a win and Ryan the defeat for the fight, but we’ll have to see if that happens.
If the 12-round decision victory for Ryan is overturned for his fight against Haney on April 20th in New York, he could be handed his second career defeat, a potentially long suspension of a year, meaning fans might not see Ryan back in the ring until late 2025 or 2026.
Garcia’s Nonchalant Response and Boxing’s Potential Loss
Interestingly, Ryan Garcia is nonchalant about the news of his B sample showing up positive, taking the attitude that it’s boxing’s loss if he’s suspended and that he was set up to test positive.
Ryan is right. It will be boxing’s loss if he’s given a long suspension because he’s arguably the most popular fighter in the U.S, and with him gone, it leaves a large hole that no one can fill. Haney isn’t popular, and he won’t because he has zero power, holds constantly, and has zero charisma.
His dad, Bill Haney, does all the talking for Devin. When Devin does say stuff, he usually puts his foot in his mouth by saying stuff that makes him look bad.
Ryan Garcia’s reaction on social media:
“Let’s go, we positive. Positive vibes. Yes, so happy. I don’t care. I’ll never make money again with boxing. Your loss, not mine, for setting me up. Lol, joke on yall. I will swallow all steroids.”
It’s a bad deal for fans if Ryan is suspended for a year or more. He’s easily the most exciting, charismatic fighter in the U.S, even more so than Gervonta Davis. Having Ryan on the sidelines for a solid year or two would be bad for American boxing.
Haney’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, wants Ryan to be banned for life, which would eliminate competition for his fighter. With Ryan banned permanently, U.S fans might be more interested in watching Haney’s fights, and he kind of needs that, given his low PPV numbers.
