Reito Tsutsumi continued his rapid rise by stopping previously unbeaten Alvino Herrera Meza in the second round on Saturday at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia. The scheduled 10-round super featherweight bout took place on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s return against Kristian Prenga and served as another statement from one of boxing’s brightest young prospects.

Tsutsumi took charge from the opening bell with his hand speed and accurate punching, leaving Herrera Meza struggling to answer the attacks. The Mexican entered with far more professional experience, but Tsutsumi dictated the pace early and steadily broke him down.
The finish came in the second round when Tsutsumi connected with a sharp combination that forced the referee to stop the contest. Herrera Meza had no answer once the Japanese prospect opened up with sustained offense, giving Tsutsumi his fourth knockout in five professional victories.
The performance represented another important step for the Ring Magazine ambassador, who entered the bout with only four professional fights but already carried lofty expectations because of his amateur background. Defeating an opponent who had never lost provided another indication that his development is moving quickly.
Tsutsumi now leaves Saudi Arabia with another dominant victory and even more attention surrounding his future. With his speed, timing, and finishing ability continuing to separate him from the opposition, bigger opportunities at 130 pounds appear to be drawing closer.
