The matchup gives Muratalla a recognizable opponent, although Conceicao enters the fight at 37 years old and ranked #12 by the IBF. Some fans have already questioned how he landed the opportunity after spending most of his recent career campaigning at 130 pounds.
Conceicao is best known for winning a gold medal for Brazil at the 2016 Olympics and later becoming a world champion at super featherweight. He has shared the ring with several notable names, including O’Shaquie Foster, Shakur Stevenson, Emanuel Navarrete, and Oscar Valdez.
Conceicao’s has won his last two fights against obscure low-level opposition since losing his rematch with O’Shaquie Foster in November 2024.
Since then, Conceicao has won two fights against lower-level opposition to work his way back into title contention.
For Muratalla, the fight offers a chance to continue building momentum after capturing the vacant IBF lightweight title and successfully defending it against Andy Cruz in January. Trained by Robert Garcia, the 28-year-old has steadily emerged as one of the division’s most active champions, using constant pressure and volume punching to wear opponents down.
The August 1 card could also help move the lightweight division toward a unification fight. Roach and Zepeda will battle for the WBC belt in the main event, creating the possibility of a future meeting between the winners if both champions are victorious.
Muratalla gets a veteran opponent with a strong name on his record. Whether Conceicao still has enough left at this stage of his career to threaten one of the division’s younger champions is another question entirely.
