Promitheas Vikos Cola officially parted ways with 54-year-old head coach Giorgos Limniatis on Monday.
In a brief break with an international window dedicated to the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, the Patras outfit opted for a new approach to the later stages of the 2025-26 schedule with a new head coach. The challenge for the next play-caller carries a 2-3 record in Group A of the Basketball Champions League Season X, powered by Ameresco SUNEL, and a 3-5 W-L tally in Greece’s Stoiximan GBL Regular Season.
With Promitheas, Limniatis bounced back in the top-tier club continental competition of FIBA Europe, on the heels of his 2024-25 spell with Peristeri Domino’s. Last season’s efforts resulted in ranking third in Group H of the Regular Season, with two wins in six games. Moving to the Play-Ins, the continental campaign was ended by Bertram Derthona Tortona.
The departing Greek tactician is a former player with stints across several Greek clubs, Sporting, Doukas, Ionikos N.F., Panellinios, PAOK, Dafni, Panionios, Papagou, and Olympiacos. Expanding to a coaching career, he worked as an assistant in the junior national teams of Greece, Nea Kifissia, Kymi, PAOK, and AEK, besides also serving the senior national team of Georgia in a similar position, under Ilias Zouros, and served as the head coach of Lavrio and Maroussi, before replacing Vassilis Spanoulis at Peristeri.
