Coming into the bout, D’Angelo Evans was the featured attraction due to his look, his KO percentage, and his most recent knockout that went viral. Most fight fans didn’t know D’Angelo Evans existed until his viral moment.

Back in May 2026, with 2:05 remaining in the second round, D’Angelo “Muscle” Evans landed a vicious left hook that knocked Cesar Villarraga out cold. The match came to an abrupt end as Villarraga was immediately attended to.

Once the knockout video hit the internet, casual fans started comparing Evans to a young Mike Tyson because of his facial features and his KO power. Some casuals went as far as making fake videos claiming Evans is Mike Tyson’s son.

Going into his August 22nd bout, the people who jumped on the D’Angelo Evans hype train were expecting another viral moment. Unfortunately, they witnessed a moment that no one predicted.

Prior to the August 22nd bout, Moises Garcia lost two fights in a row. Garcia went back to the drawing board, and he bounced back by putting together a two-fight win streak.

In his April 2026 fight, Garcia lost by way of unanimous decision to Top Rank’s rising undefeated prospect Deric “Scooter” Davis. Four months later, Garcia was scheduled to fight another prospect who was rapidly gaining momentum.

On the night of August 22nd, with 1:47 remaining in the 5th round, Garcia landed a hard left hook that staggered Evans. D’Angelo Evans showed his inexperience by retreating straight backward rather than clinching or angling out.

Garcia pressed forward and landed a flurry of shots that produced a knockdown. D’Angelo Evans was unable to get up, and just like that, the hype train got derailed.

With the victory, the Puebla, Puebla, Mexico native Moises “Bam-Bam” Garcia improved to a record of (8-6-3, 4 KOs). Now the question is, will the big promotional companies take a chance on matching their rising prospects against the upset-minded Garcia?

For D’Angelo Evans, it’s time to regroup. From an offensive standpoint, Evans has some tools, but to bounce back effectively, he must work on his defense and learn to fight off the back foot.
