MIDDLESBROUGH took a parting shot at former head coach Rob Edwards following his appointment as Wolves boss.
Edwards resigned from his job at Boro this week to replace Vitor Pereira at Molineux – despite only joining the club in June.
In the wake of his departure, Middlesbrough officials have made their feelings clear in a powerful club statement.
It read: “Middlesbrough FC can confirm that Rob Edwards has now officially resigned his post as head coach after agreeing a contract with Wolves.
“Rob had signed a three-year contract with ourselves during the summer, but after he made it clear he was keen to join Wolves, we reluctantly agreed a figure of compensation for both himself and one of his first team coaches, Harry Watling.
“On Saturday the Riverside came together as one, players, staff, and supporters, and you could feel the sense of unity which is at the core of our club. To everyone involved, we would like to say thank you.

“Adi Viveash took charge of team affairs last Saturday and will continue to do so during the interim period.
“Let’s stay together. UTB.”
Middlesbrough fans were thrilled with the statement and praised the club for taking a “dig” at Edwards.
One person said: “Good statement. Now let’s get the right man in for us all to get behind and hopefully achieve promotion this season, while the snake gets relegated and hopefully sacked with his reputation in tatters!”
Another commented: “Not even a thank you. I love it.”
While a third wrote: “Good statement. Nice dig too.”
